South Texas— Wendy Davis, former Texas State Senator and leader in Democratic politics, has officially endorsed Michelle Vallejo for congressional district 15.
“I am honored to receive Wendy’s endorsement to represent working-class South Texans,” progressive Democrat Vallejo said. “As someone who has been at the forefront of the fight to protect reproductive freedoms and voting rights, Wendy knows how important this election is for the future of our district. We’re building a large coalition of Texans from all backgrounds not only to win the fast-approaching primary, but to keep this seat blue in November.”
Davis gained national prominence in 2013 when she strapped on a pair of pink sneakers and held a 13-hour filibuster to protect women’s reproductive freedoms in Texas. In 2014, she ran for governor of Texas. Her fight ultimately led to a successful and landmark decision in the U.S. Supreme Court, strengthening the landscape for abortion rights throughout the country. She now leads the organization Deeds Not Words, a non-profit that seeks to empower and activate the voices of young women in public and political discourse.
Last week, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) declared TX-15 as a top priority to keep the U.S. House of Representatives with a Democratic majority. The district is expected to be one of the most competitive races in the country after the controversial GOP-led redistricting that civil rights leaders say dilutes the power of historically disenfranchised voters.
Early voting begins on Feb. 14 and the Primary Election Day is on Mar. 1. Keep up with Michelle Vallejo at michellefortx15.com or on social media @MichelleVforTX.
